Field Notes

Description:

These tiny birds flocked by the hundreds along the beach. Their bellies were white, their backs mottled brown and dark, nearing black.

Habitat:

These birds alternated between the sand on the beach - usually chasing the tide back and forth as they dug in the surf for food and darted in and around bigger birds with longer beaks. These birds were also the only ones that seemed to stray away from the water to investigate further ashore up the sand.
