Field Notes

Description:

Yellow-bronze shrimp ~ 6 cm long (less antennae) with red dorsal surface with white longitudinal strip along the dorsal centerline and red tail with white spots.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted off of Leeward Oahu. This species is also known as a "racer shrimp" (from its appearance of having a stripe like a race car). Date and location notional, but reasonably close to actual date and location of spotting. Original medium photoprint taken with Nikonos III and close-up kit using flash; subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file.
