Field Notes

Description:

Pieridae; Pierinae; Cepora aspasia anaitis Eschscholtz, 1821. This morning I saw two butterflies twirling around in a kind of "mating dance". The first two photos, above, are of one of the butterflies and, from pictures in Philippine Lepidoptera's Collection, I can say that it is a male Orange Gull. The last two pictures are of the other butterfly, which I cannot match exactly with PhiLep pictures, but I think that it must be a female Orange Gull.

Habitat:

These two butterflies were spotted this morning, flying around in a "mating dance" at the edge of a rice field.
