There are a couple good online references for North American caterpillars. I use bugguide.net a lot.
Unfortunately I do not have any more photos of this creature, as it was my friend who took the picture. I will use the bugguide.com to look up stuff from now on, because google searching seems to come up with inaccurate results.
Do you have any other views of this caterpillar? The color of the lashes make me think this might be a different species. Sycamore Tussocks have red-orange and white lashes like here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/986702 This may be a light and worn Banded Tussock.
