date and location notional, but date correct within a month, location correct within five miles north or south along coast; original medium photoprint, probably taken with Nikonos III using flash; print subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file

Thanks for the suggestion, jlh7880. You may be right, but I am really unsure. All the images I pull up online show much more discrete, rigid branching in fan coral than I recall was the case in this spotting. I think the smallest "branches" in the spotting were diaphanous, flexible, "wavy." Still, it's a 30-year-old memory, and memory is notoriously unreliable.
