Description:

Also known as Indo-Pacific Striped Eel Catfish, Striped Catfish-eel, Striped Sea Catfish and Coral Catfish. Salt-water catfish have venomous spines in the fins which can inflict painful wounds. Stings from Plotosus lineatus are known to have resulted in deaths.

They are bottom feeders and use the barbels around their mouth to detect food. For the benefit of feeding, these juveniles form tightly packed schools, which may contain hundreds of fish. They feed on other fish, crustaceans and molluscs.

Habitat:

Found in large groups in silty coastal areas among debris.
