Field Notes

Description:

hefty mushroom with thick veil, brown below the annulus, dirty white; only the cap is usually visible above the pine needle duff; very fragrant with an unmistakable sweet-spicy odor

Habitat:

under shore pine in moss-covered sand

Notes:

I've added a colored pencil drawing that I did of the matsutake (one of my favorites), since pictures of them seem scarce here on Project Noah.

It is the most delicious mushroom. I'm kicking myself for accidentally leaving these in my mother's refrigerator many miles from here. She'll throw them out.
Wow! Rare mushroom from Japan
the price is very high, edible and medicinic mushroom
