Description:

There are occasional, localized outbreaks of this grasshopper. It is often referred to as a locust, though it lacks the true swarming form of the desert locust (S. gregaria). This is not a severe agricultural pest in terms of economic losses, but it can sometimes cause significant damage to many kinds of crops.

Habitat:

Native to: North America. Range: Eastern, central North America, south into Mexico and into South America, also the Bahamas. Habitat: Fields, open woodlands
