Description:
The tropical house gecko is native to sub-Saharan Africa. It has also been introduced to North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Note the vertical pupil, and the clawed joints on the fingers and toes. These geckos excel in colonizing oceanic islands by rafting on flotsam, and this one was spotted on the small island of Chumbe just off the Tanzanian coast.
Habitat:
Usually associated with human settlements. This one was found climbing a pole in a hut.
