Description:
small bird, very colourful and beautifully marked. also known as Diamond dyke, spotted diamond bird, bank-diamond, diamond sparrow. the forehead, crown, wings and tail are black and spotted with white, back is grey-brown spotted with white/buff, eyebrow white, black beak, grey on side of head, undertail feathers and throat bright yellow, base of upper tail bright yellow, russet-chestnut to crimson in colour. female slightly duller than male.
Habitat:
found from northern Queensland down east coast and inland ranges through NSW, Victoria and into lower parts of South Australia and also tasmania. also in very south east of Western Australia. varied terrain as habitat and nests in earth bank near waterways or cliffs or in hollow trees occassionally.
