Your Wagtails will most likely be Pied, the White is a European mainland sub-species. The Pied has a much darker grey back and is rarely seen on the continent. But we also have Grey an Yellow here, and Spanish, which used to be a sub-species of yellow.
There are lots of wagtails where I live, both white and grey! Though there are less now that the cold has come in. What adorable photos, and I really do love that bluethroat in there too! I know what you mean about missing the small things, I often stop along footpaths to take pictures of the songbirds in them, people just think I'm trying to take "artistic" shots of the bare branches against the sky or something?!
They live here all year but numbers are greatly increased during winter. We are hoping to monitor the marshes closely this winter to see what lives here. Yesterday (4 Nov) there were little birds everywhere in the reeds if you looked closely, including several Bluethroats and Buntings. Most people were only looking for ducks and thought we were taking photos of reeds.
