Description:

When I first spotted this plant I thought the flower looked the same as an Okra bloom but this plant is a climber/rambler

Habitat:

Scrambling through the hedgerow on the edge of rice fields

@ annorion. I've just check the above spottings and the flower is very similar but the leaves are quite different. I noted Arun's suggestion as he is, I believe Thai, but the habit of this plant is trailing, so I think I will have to go and collect a piece and ask my landlady for the Thai name. I have seen Roselle fruits in the morning market for sale so I would think it is related. Definately Hibiscus/Mallow family : ) Thanks for the link

i saw the same flower here in south India as well... i would love to know the ID of this plant. ;) beautiful picture
At first glance I thought it was sea hibiscus because of the colorings. But the leaves & seed pod (?) proved me wrong. Such an unique plant this one is.
