Field Notes

Description:

Oblong cowrie ~ 2 cm long. The shell is creamy white with prominent brown markings. The body, including mantle, antennae and siphon, is orange.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted offshore of Leeward Oahu. Date is notional, ca. 1983. Original medium was photoprint, taken with Nikonos III using close-up kit and flash; print subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file.
