Field Notes

Description:

Dusky Stink Bugs feed on plant juices and are considered a crop pest, especially to fruits. Natural enemies include parasitic wasps & Tachinid flies. Predacious stink bug species ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7823366 ) can be distinguished from pest species by the positioning of the proboscis. The proboscis of the beneficial species fold back under the body leaving a space between the body and the mouthparts, whereas the pest species proboscis appears attached to the head at the anterior tip of the head ventrally.

Habitat:

Eastern and central United States, east of Rocky Mountains. Woodlands.

Beautiful picture of a beautiful insect--you've captured a lot of minute details. I've started noticing all the diversity in the stink bugs lately, they're pretty neat!
