Field Notes
Description:
A flowering plant that produces clusters of flower heads, each containing what appears to be 14 to 18 flowers. The four pink petals of each flower have slightly darker veins on top of them. The four stamens and the pistil are yellow. I have no clue about the sepals and their form.
The leaves appear somewhat thick with a smooth texture, like a succulent. However, I did not touch the plant; therefore, I can only tell from memory or depending on the photos.
If I remember correctly, the flowers and leaves were almost the size of a pea, slightly larger or smaller. See photos 2 and 3.
I do not remember any scent but did not attempt to smell the flowers.
Habitat:
I captured the photos of this plant during a camping trip on the Taurus mountain range in the easter medditerranean in Turkey. The plants were growing up a rock face on a rocky ridge at an elevation of approximately 2100 meters. Even though the ground was pretty rocky, non of these plants were growing on or near the ground; the lowest plant, I would say, would be approximately at head height or shoulder height. See photos 1, 4, 5 and 6.
Notes:
I already tried an identification app on my smartphone and checked a book called “Wild Flowers of Turkey” by N. Öztürk to no avail. Any help with identification would be appreciated.
I should have included a few close-ups of the individual flowers to help with identification, but the flowers are relatively small, and I do not have a macro lens.
