Description:
A shy bush-shrike from the family Malaconotidae. Distinctively colored red and black, with yellowish eye ring. Some 20+ cm in length.
Habitat:
subtropical moist shrublands, semi-urban setting of Bossangoa
Notes:
Very noisy bird; it was waking me up for days with a bell-like call, which I didn't recognize. Until the moment I got attracted to the noise from this Gonolek fighting with a Bulbul, very close to my window... the ruckus was really loud; fight was interesting to watch and its issue resulted with these photos - somewhat blurry, because shot through the mosquito net on my window.
