Field Notes

Description:

The Feathertail Glider is the world's smallest gliding possum and is named for its long feather-shaped tail. Although only the size of a very small mouse (< 80 mm and 10 to 14 g), it can leap and glide up to 25 metres. This one has a joey in the pouch. We think she may have been cat caught and she will be in care for a few days only - fingers crossed!

Habitat:

Along much of the eastern coast of Australia.

Sure do love a happy ending :D Thank you for sharing Steve!
Domestic cats should be indoor pets unless there is a good reason otherwise. I have 5 and they are fine indoors. WHAT A LITTLE CUTIE! Thanks for rescuing!
Thanks for the comments. She was successfully released - took off like a rocket!
Steve, this is a spectacular species. I found one once trapped in a bucket (it was fine). They're so cute - the tail wraps around your little finger. Maybe we should ban cats - and buckets.
I missed that! I hope she makes a full recovery & mom & baby make it back to the wild!
Girl actually - she has a joey in her pouch to prove it
What a cute little guy!
