Field Notes

Description:

Adult black, including wings, or nearly black, brown - purple. Prominent mouthparts. As in other Tabanus, males eyes meet in the middle; females eyes are separated. 20 - 28 mm long.

Habitat:

Very wide range in habitats; generally near aquatic environments.
