Northern Water Snake
Nerodia sipedon
40.7968, -74.4815
Field Notes
Description:
Northern Water Snake
Habitat:
I found this and many more like this in an area where there is a very small, muddy pond with many birds living on the pond. There are lots of turtles and frog here too. The area around the pond is very very swampy. I find these snakes beneath a bridge. They appear to slither out of the creek that supplies the pond to sun themselves.
Notes:
I think they are Northern Water Snakes but I am not sure. They are rather large and as you can see from the first photo he has 2 meals in him. The meals he ate appeared to be about the size of a large frog or a small bird.
