Field Notes

Description:

It is believed that lions climb trees in order to get away from tsetse flies (large flies with a nasty bite) and to enjoy a cool breeze. Tree-climbing lions aren't very common. While cubs climb trees for fun, adult lions rarely do, except in the Serengeti and Manyama.

Habitat:

Serengeti, Tanzania

Notes:

These 3 lionesses were sleeping soundly in the limbs of an acacia tree.
