Thanks KarenL, that's so interesting! I've never seen a fox in my neighborhood but there's a young red-shouldered hawk who's been hanging around eyeing my feeder birds: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7900293
Great advice Ava! This could be a fox or even a hawk. You can tell if the culprit was a hawk if the feathers are intact as raptors pluck their prey whereas cats & foxes bite them off leaving a blunt end.
