Field Notes

Description:

Striking birds with their contrasting plumage and long tail. The Black-billed magpie measures 45–60 cm (18–24 in) long (the tail is half that -- seen in pics 2 and 3). Black bill and feet.

Habitat:

Spotted in Ellensburg, Washington. They are found in eastern Washington and usually on open farms and ranches that have trees nearby.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was pretty excited that it decided to stay sitting on the fence post long enough for some pics. I hope you get your Scissor-tailed Flycatcher soon Saturniidae27 they are on my list to get.

Nice find and great pics Brian. Yesterday I saw a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (Tyrannus forficatus), but all my pictures were blurred out.
