You may need a local person to ID this. I can say it is in the Nymphalidae group. It walks on four legs as all nymphalidae butterflies do, holding its first pair of legs forward to form the characteristic pointed snout. They are used for feeding on flowers.
Our itinerary includes Tortuguero, Cano Negro, Poas Volcano and Escalonia Cloud Forest, Arenal Volcano and the rainforest there. I'm pretty sure this will just make me want to come back!
