Description:

I saw these 2 horseshoe crabs being mongered at an open market. They were waving their tails about so I knew they were alive.

This was the first time I saw horseshoe crabs again as an adult and was rather excited by them. Keeping a safe distance, I asked the lady monger what do people buy them for - she said to eat their eggs.

The excitement turned into sadness.

Wow! Eating them that is just grouse! Those sure are wierd bugs, I thought there were some really strange creatures here in South America.

Thanks for the info - I thought the smaller one was a juvenile at first. I just wish people stop eating them.

people there do eat them even though they are supposed to be toxic. They are always found in pairs, the male i think is the smaller one and can be identified by a sort of concave front lip..really creepy movers, a real blast from the past!!

The larger one was big. At that time, I felt a sense of helplessness looking at them - thinking why should they be killed for food? It's not as if there was a starvation going on...
