Field Notes

Description:

Black head with clear body and black insides. Was about a half inch long.

Habitat:

Dead wood log.

Notes:

This larva was found with an adult Patent-leather beetle I for the previous posting. Was in an area of the log that had a lot of chewed up wood.

Species ID Suggestions

Unfortunately, I would only be guessing. I could guess several. But all of them are much smaller than a Patent Leather Beetle/Bess Beetle. Patent Leather Beetles are cool. The larva and adults can make sounds, too.
That's not a Patent Leather Beetle larva. Larva for some other beetle species.
