It does look similar to the related Sycamore Tussock Moth, however, the Sycamore Tussock has white and orange lashes (the long tufts of hair), no black lashes. http://bugguide.net/node/view/423 You can compare to the link above. Most of the Banded Tussock Moth caterpillars have black heads but some do have red heads (there are a couple on BG with the red head. I have a spotting of a red-headed one as well. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/158796113
