Description:

Could this be some type of swordfly lavae? If so, what species?

Habitat:

Heathland in the south of Melbourne

Notes:

Found on a small eucalyptus at Long Hollow Heathland, Reserve Rd, Black Rock

Thank you for confirming to species. Sounds like there are many. Bayside Friends of Native Wildlife are fully into a microbat project and starting interest in insects as we develop our citizen science and our web page. Insects are a big learning curve, but we actually found the photographed swordflies when talking to a local primary school so now I can send them the photo plus name down to species if not specific species.
Sawfly larvae. Perga Sp. They feed singly on guml eaves at night and huddle together during the day for safety.
