Description:

kalij pheasants moving through old lava flows and scrub brush

Habitat:

upland tropical forest on slope of shield volcano

Notes:

spotted just beyond the end of the pavement of Mauna Loa ("Strip") Road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at about 6700 ft MSL; this Asian species was introduced to Hawaii as a game bird
