Field Notes

Description:

I did a vegetation survey from the Te Anau caves down to Dead mans point. The vegetation was fairly normal except for this witches broom. These photo's were taken on the same day of the same tree. The growths were the size of my hand which considering the size of the witches brooms all around me was totaally different.

Habitat:

The actual tree is the habitat for the small mite which generally cause this type of growth, by excreting a plant hormone.
