Description:

This is flax in New Zealand, thousands of tons of this plant was used to make rope for the British Navy. Will have to find a photo showing the whole plant. This is a totally different plant from the European flax which is Linum.

Habitat:

In wet swampy areas. Large areas of the West Coast of both Islands had large swamps covered in this plant.
