Actually, in this portion of forest, there had been a fire not so long ago, and the rest of nature was pretty poor, it was one of the rare flowers around, appart from the orchids, which some need fire as well to prosper ; )
amazing Craig !! i probably didn't look down at the plant !
It's flowering, so I think there was life in it yet! Some of these Xanthorrhoea have their flowering triggered by bush fires and do look rather scorched, like in your other shot, but they can take it. In fact the fire clears the area of some of the competition so their seeds stand a better chance of success :) They're very very slow growing though so maybe this one hadn't developed a trunk yet.
Thanks craig, but i don't have the rest of the tree... i'm pretty sure it was dead. but next to it was growing an amazing lichen as well, just keep an eye..
wow, thats a starry piece of wood. looks fantastic.
Wow! I missed this one. That's really amazing. There's some moss there by the looks of it but the white flowers appear to belong to the woody plant its on. I had a quick search for cauliflorous (flowering directly on stems and trunks) plants in western oz but drew a blank. What did the rest of the plant look like? I don't suppose you have any more pics?
Thank you, i'm glad you liked it, but i still can't find what specie it is ...
