Field Notes

Description:

This frogfish was nearly black in color (except for the edges of its fins), its skin velvety in appearance. It was about 2 or 3cm in length.

Habitat:

Reef associated, depths of 8 to 30m. Tropical waters.

Notes:

I photographed this intriguing little critter at a depth of less than 10m, during a morning dive at Dayang Beach, Talikud Island, Davao, Philippines. It was only less than 4cm long -- only a baby, I imagine. I sure hope it survives into adulthood!

Most likely, this is not Antennarius randalli. Could still be Antennarius pictus
Well, it was East (the Carabao Dive Center dive instructor) who spotted it for me. :)
