Field Notes

Description:

This large beetle is the largest weevil in North America. These two individuals were seen in the same week and show the two different color phases. The red one was seen escaping a spider web in a semi developed area while the black one almost flew into my face while riding my bike through pinelands.

Habitat:

Florida pinelands

Notes:

There does seem to be a few morphological differences between the two but there only seem to be one recognized species.
