Description:

A bird of southern swamps, the Anhinga is known as the Water-Turkey for its swimming habits and broad tail, and also as the Snake-Bird for its habit of swimming with just its long head and neck sticking out of the water.

Habitat:

Seen along a river in Costa Rica

Yes, that is true, sometimes even the local guides can be mistaken with the IDs :( Good thing there are experts like you to help :)
Unfortunately a lot of people who think they know birds don't actually know birds ;)
Thanks, @Ashley for the correct ID. I was told it was a Commorant! lol
The skinny, pointed bill is a great clue that this isn't one of the cormorants :)
