Field Notes

Description:

A narrow-winged, narrow-bodied moth. Forewings buffish brown with dark streaks and a silvery-white stripe along length. Hindwings are pink towards the base and marked with dark streaks. Larva is green with anterior false eye spot.

Habitat:

Favours all sorts of open, flower-rich habitats, including gardens. Often seen on the wing at dusk and occasionally in daytime too. Flies May-September. Widespread throughout region.

Notes:

Though it says they fly May to September, this fellar was spotted in December....he at least thinks it's a mild winter so far!
