Description:

Almost 2 inch long cocoon and 1 inch wide and unusually "heavy" and very dense.

Habitat:

Woodlands in the Poconos

I am so jealous! What a great find. I would love to see a polyphemus eclose.
I think around March down here but maybe later where you are.
I have one huge one... almost 4 inches... I will get some kind of net for the big ones. Do they hatch early spring?
Wow, that's good going! I've only found 4 polyphemus cocoons & 1 of those has vanished :( Another fell onto the ground so I've brought it in to overwinter in the garage in the hope that I will get to see the moth in the spring!
I found 2 like this. Very heavy? Cool! Altogether I am at about 16 cocoons in 3 days?
This looks a lot like my polyphemus cocoons Carol!
