Field Notes

Description:

A medium-size accipiter. Relatively the most slender and longest-tailed accipiter with rather long head and neck.

Habitat:

Found in woods and edges of woods. Often hunts around houses and birdfeeders. Nests in tall trees, especially pines.

Notes:

This pretty hawk landed in a small tree next to a bank while I was waiting in the drive-thru! I snapped a couple photos before it flew off to another perch near the bank. I soon followed and was able to take some more photos.

I'm seeing Cooper's over Sharpie here. Note the capped head, beefy feet, and rounded belly.
