Field Notes

Description:

A species of squirrel native to the eastern parts of the US and Canada, it has been introduced in the UK where it has displaced the native red squirrel. Predominantly grey as the name suggests, but often tinged with brown. They hoard food to last them through the winter. Can be very bold, in some areas they will take food from humans.

Habitat:

Can live in wooded areas or urban areas, as long as there are trees and nuts.

Notes:

This little guy was in a tree on the campus grounds of the University of Essex. He was happily munching on something so let me take some snaps before he bounded away!

I thought I better let my one follower (thank you) know... gonna quit this site, I realize this is not really for me, am more into photography than into the 'scientific' side of nature... for me its about the beauty of a picture from sunrise to scenery and indeed wildlife etc is a part of all that but not my main interest like it should be to be on this site. I wish you good luck and merry christmas !
Not a problem! :) Ah neat, although you have a different kind of red squirrel to the one we get in Europe! Both still ridiculously cute, I hope you can get a photo of one to post on Project Noah!
thank you for editing my fisher-title ! indeed, here in western canada, no grey squirrels, only the red ones... a great picture !
