Field Notes
Description:
The color is variable with gray, brown, to nearly black individuals being seen. They also have irregular patches or mottled patterns, spots, and lighter colored lines on their bodies. Both sexes have a neck dewlap, often yellow or orange in color, used in various displays (see photo).
Habitat:
Open or disturbed areas often near humans.
Notes:
These lizards are native to Cuba, Bahamas, and neighboring islands. They have, however, invaded Florida, threatening the native anole.
