Absolutely fabulous flower! Thanks for sharing this. The stems do look a bit like a succulent Euphorb., but the flower structure gives it away as a member of Asclepiadaceae. Dissapointingly, 'lifesaver' only refers to the resemblance of the central donut to a rubber ring.
