Description:

A huge and tall and very unusual tree. Grows up to 27 m (88 ft. tall) and lives up to 200 years. This had to be close to that.

Woodlands in the Poconos

Thank you. It is a cool old tree. By the way, there is a new MISSION. PLANTS OF THE WORLD! I am so glad I can put all my plants and trees in it now.
I've just planted one of these! It will be a while before it looks as impressive as this though as it's only 4' tall at the moment!
I agree, looks more like shagbark hickory
Looks more like Carya Ovata .... Shagbark Hickory to me, have never seen an Oak with bark like this. I will be watching to see what the definate ID is.
