Mostly black/ charcoal, but has very faint purple/ blue spots.

Yep, knew it was a leech. I looked up tiger ones and it seems to say there is a stripe on the tiger ones. So am a little unsure. ?
Pretty 99.9% sure thats a leech..type of tiger one ..... Among the common species in Tasmania are Philaemon pungens, reaching about 20mm, and the striped P. grandis, or Tiger leech, which reaches about 56mm. http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/indeX.aspX?base=17016
