It's possibly Viburnum rhytidophyllum, Leatherleaf Viburnum. http://pnwplants.wsu.edu/PlantDisplay.aspx?PlantID=129 http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/shrubs/viburnum_rhytidophyllum.html It has fuzzy twigs and the fruits ripen to black as the winter advances.
I don't know what viburnum it is, but leaf shape resembles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Viburnum_lantana_a1.jpg Some viburnums have leaves that resemble maple leaves. You could try taking a twig with leaves and fruit into your local nursery. They might be able to identify it.
Yes-i think you're right! Any thought as to what kind of viburnum?
