Description:
Mature individuals are identified by black slender bodies, large black spots between nodus and stigma of each wing. Juveniles have white spots on sides of face, brown thorax, no wing spots and a black zigzag dorsal stripe. Females darken more slowly than males, and retain white facial spots.
Habitat:
Their preferred habitats are ponds, lakes and ditches, often with brackish or fertilized water. They can be found in 16 states, primarily in the southern regions.
Notes:
This dragon fly is perching on a daisy in Rutenberg Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
