Field Notes

Description:

Lovely pink, bushy flowers on climbing bush with even pinnate leaves that point to each other resembling a shrimp tail. The inflorescence resembles a raspberry. The branches have hair (trichomes) The real color of the flowers isn't this bright/neon. My phone apparently modified it a bit but it is a pretty pink in person :)

Habitat:

Planted bush supported by trellis in business park.

Notes:

iPhone spotting.

Pink powder puff tree

Calliandra surinamensis

Hi Leuba, it definitely is a Calliandra. Thank you! The species is difficult. It seems there are a lot of cultivars of the surinamensis species. There's Calliandra haematocephala x surinamensis Nana but the flowers are light pink. Hmmm, I'll keep searching.
The flowers look very much like those of the Raintree (Albizia saman ) which is a massive tree. Also, the leaves are arranged a little differently on the raintree - from memory they are bi-pinnately compound. I hope my ID is correct !
