Field Notes

Description:

This California Whipsnake (also called striped racer) was about 3 to 3.5 feet long. The snake is very pretty and the stripes are very bright contrasted against the black scales.

Habitat:

I saw the whipsnake while hiking at the Pinnacles National Park on the Juniper Canyon Trail in the mid-morning. It was off of the trail in the brush and dead leaves. It was laying still and I was able to take a few pictures before it decided to move on.

Hmmm. Don't know how I missed this one. Any day you find a snake is a good day. Hope you have had lots more :-)
