Field Notes

Description:

An interesting find, and a bit unorthodox to PN's spectrum. I tripped over one of these bones and decided to see if we could find any more. Under a few inches of shale we found approximately 2 feet of what I assume to be fish vertebrate. I have *no* idea how old these could be but I'm sure they aren't recent. Each segment is approximately an inch long and an inch in diameter. We also found what appears to be part of the tail. Unfortunately no head. i fear that section was washed away long ago. And I apologize if this sort of post is inappropriate to this cause.

Habitat:

Northwest kansas shale bed
