Taxodium distichum
40.4136, -3.68137
Field Notes
Description:
The leaves are short (3-10 mm long), slender and are on shoots that tend to be erect rather than spreading. The trunk is expanded at the base, even on young trees, assisting the tree in anchoring in the soft, muddy soil. The cones also tend to be small, not over 2.5 cm diameter. The bark is pale gray color.
It is very similar to Taxodium ascendens, the pond cypress. Some botanists consider it to be the same species
