Eggs of Anna's hummingbird
Calypte anna
32.7514, -117.141
Field Notes
Description:
Hummingbird, most likely Anna's, as they are the most common in our area. We witnessed the courtship dance (male dive-bombing from 100+ feet) about eight days ago. Now there are two small eggs. Will try to get a photo of the nesting female, too. Two weeks later and now there are two baby birds in the nest. Very exciting for the resident humans!
Habitat:
Avocado tree, nest built about 6' off the ground, in our backyard. Several flowering plants in our yard including salvias, lantana and calendula. Dense urban setting with a few yards but mostly apartments and condos within a block or two.
