Description:
We observed two males and three females in one spot during our hike last weekend, but got only the female (and only from above) in pics... This is Orange tip butterfly, a medium sized (about 4 o 5 cm in wingspan). The female is predominantly white above, and mottled green ad white below, with blackish tips, and blackish body. The male is similar in size, but one third of his forewings are bright orange, giving the origin of its common name.
Habitat:
This is very common springtime flyer in Jura mountains, usually observed in clearings and edges of forests. Here, found just next to a pathway through rocky escarpment, on slopes of Jura mountain range; surrounded by magnificent mixed forest.
